Breaks you heart

There is a story on CNN HERE about three college kids killed in a car crash.

While that alone is depressing, and my sympathy's go out to the parents, read it and see what their families are doing to pay off the kids debt. In our country folks don't care and run for the bail out money, let their homes be foreclosed on, and for years spent without a care and then went bankrupt to avoid paying. . .

These folks are poor, and they still know they have to pay off the debt. They don't make excuse, and are actually upset by the fact they can't pay and they have a good reason.

Who are we to wine about paying our bills when we don't have a good reason. . . . It shows how far we have fell. There was a time when folks here would have felt the same way. . . . how do we get back there?

Thank you for your wonderful post.

I too have the deepest sympathy towards these 3 unfortunate families. And the parents' efforts to pay off the debts speak volume of their responsibility. We all should learn from them.

May God bless them.

Why they come to USA? those fucking Chinese. everybody know they are lying, in China, things just could be worse and no one will give them a penny for accidentl like this, what's more, if the killer is really rich, he can buy police, judge or anyone for a no guilty sentence. those fucking cheating Chinese.

Maybe the school can set up an account for donations so these families can recoup some of their money. This seems like a more worthy cause than donating to the OctoMom!

The last few generations in the US lost what their immigrant great grandfathers and mothers tried to teach them about responsibility, about caring others, about taking only what you need. Those who travel in the world know this already. BUT the article also talks about something unheard of in a civilized country. Shameful traffic laws in the USA.
The murderer was already convinced and he already killed a family. In normal countries there is ZERO tolerance when it comes to drinking and driving, also if you are speeding like he did you have no license anymore. This dumb redneck should rot in prison while he is working for every slice of bread ALONG with those who let him back on the roads!!! Every judge, lawyer, should be convicted. This could be an eye opener for the rest of the speeding drunks and those who help them.
Also think about this: other than the large cities, every bar, and pub, every place where they serve alcohol is full with people who drove there and will drive away from there! The police knows this and do nothing! Maybe if the tickets would be 10X more expensive and the officers would get a nice share from it they would work like they should now...and actually serve and protect us as they promised.

I'm sending in $20. Wishing I could help more, but I'm just getting by, like everyone else. Thanks for the touching story. May God bless them & give them strength to go on.

I can only assume they did not have an"underinsured" rider on their policy. It would have helped them at least collect from their own insurance company for their loss, since the guilty driver had no insurance.

Why did they come to America? The same reason many do - for an education and a shot at a better life either here or in their homeland. They came here legally so I don't begrudge them the schooling or anything else. This is a tragedy that shows how bad our traffic laws are, and how much personal responsibility we have given up.

Recently here in the states, we hear of news how a man kills his entire family and himself because he just lost his job. This sad story must remind everyone it's more than just about "me, me, me".

Where did you send your donation too. Did the school set up an organization? Do you have a link?

sorry, but i disagree with most of you. There can be NOTHING in life worse then losing a child. SO when the article says that that is just the beginning, it's not...It is the story. And yes, it's tragic and sad, but it doesn't mean that these people should profit from this, and I think, in the end, that's what will happen. If they were so proud they wouldn't be here begging for money

JD said...

I don't know that they have asked for a cent of donations. They have found out that this guy can take their kids, and not have any insurance so anything the courts award is meaningless as the guy has no money.

There is nothing worse than losing a child, and they do not seem to be trying to profit from it. This is a story telling of the loss and how the drive that caused it is not paying for his actions

You are a moron. Somehow, murder commmitted by a driver whose license should've been revoked years ago, is twisted by you into a tirade against the Chinese...I cannot believe your utter lack of honor.

This is a travesty – not only have they lost their only children, but now they also have to worry about how to pay people back the money borrowed to put the children through college. I certainly hope some of the wealthy people in this country can come together and lift the burden off these people’s shoulders.

God Bless you.

A) Clearly, they want a hand out from sympathetic readers.

B) We don't really CARE how you do it in China. Our culture is different. We don't believe children rack up a never ending bill from the moment they're born. Oh, by the way, who paid for your ticket and passport to come to America? Oh, that's right. AMERICA did! You already got your hand-out.
"They've collectively received about $19,000 from a state victim's fund and $22,000 from a charitable fund established by Urbana University. Another fund set up by the university collected about $36,000, but much of the money went toward the families' funeral and travel bills."
That's roughly $13,666 each. That's 93,385.42 Yuan. Each!

C) You want justice? Go shoot the scum in the head. The family that raised him too. That's your justice. I agree, he should have never been allowed in a car but there are no laws that allow anyone to stop drunks from killing again and again. Afterall, all of ya'll drink and love to say, "There but for the grace of god, go I." Nice.

WTF is wrong with some of you people? Is this showing how Americans really are? Where is the compassion? You should seriously consider going after your own parents for creating such a nasty creature. I am ashamed on your behalf.

God bless these people who have lost their children.

(Sigh.) Once again, I'm so proud to be an American. Yeah, yeah, if you don't like it leave. At this point, would that I could. I would feel safer in a place that has rules, and abides by them.

bunch of morons. where does it say these people are "BEGGING" for money???

I am very sorry that those kids lost their lives. It is tragic. There is no way the government is responsible to pay them for the money they put out to send their children to a university here. Maybe they should request THEIR government give them the money in exchange for only being allowed to have one child!

Before any of you bleeding hearts say anything - my brother was murdered and my family paid for the funeral and paid his remaining bills and we didn't ask the government, the perp or anyone else to pay for that.

They took the financial responsibility and they chose to send their kids to this country. They have to deal with the laws and results as sad as that is.

They just lost their only child.. they couldn't care less about making a profit. Even in the hardest of times, the parents are still putting others before themselves. That is, they're trying their hardest to get enough money to pay back the friends and family who they have borrowed money from... I don't they they care about their own lives anymore because their sole purpose was to make the best life for their child. So sad.

I think the lesson from this accident is that you should never be complacent about your surroundings, even if you're at a stoplight. Always leave some room in front of you so you can skedaddle if you see a car barreling at you from a totally unexpected direction. At this speed (98 mph), I don't think it would have mattered if the victims' car were a Chevy Suburban instead of a Ford Taurus - it would have been mashed. The only way to have stayed alive would have been to get out of the way.
