North East Blogger Shoot

Had a great time this weekend at the 4th annual NE blogger shoot. . .

The oldest daughter and I went up for a day at the secret range to see friends, and try out lots of guns and overall have a great time.

Got to shoot a semi auto 1919. . . that was cool.  And an automatic belt fed .22  - fun and no recoil. . . and I got a good photo of me with a recoilless rifle. . .

the killer for the day was the 3" turkey shot loads. . .. in 12 ga. . .. OUCH.  I can still feel that one.

Many others have much better reviews, but let me just say it was a great way to spend the day. . . .

Blogger issues

Got some of the folks I met at the latest blogger shoot added to the rolls but I can't get Mopar or Zercool on to the list.  Blogger is having issues I think and I will keep trying but it was good to meet you all!

Blogger Shoot 2010

Well the blogger shoot is over and all that is left is to buy new ammo and clean the boom sticks. . .

Had a great time and met a number of new folks, some even bloggers = )

I will be updating the bloggers I met list and all that good stuff this week.  Lissa and JayG have some good photos and info on the shoot on their blogs, you really need to go and read them over.

As for me, I have to say that my oldest and I had a great time.  I did most of my shooting with the black powder I have.  I did get a chance to try a fully suppressed fully auto .22. . . and so did my daughter.  I have to say it was fun.  It sounded like an old electric typewriter with a key stuck and boy did it go through 25 rounds fast.   Lots of fun!

The shoot stated out with the normal cannon shot, here is a good shot of Jay lining it up. . . minutes of berm my ass. . . .

We had the normal paper targets, some water filled coke bottles and such but the star of the day was ol' hello kitty. . . it went down with a good fight but it did lose.  At the end there were so many through and through that it was stuck to the backstop and didn't need the hanger any more. . . .

I also got to spend a good amount of time talking to the folks, met another Mason there, and made a bunch of new friends.  You know it is funny but the folks are so good to talk to at times the shooting gets in the way. . . (just kidding)

We also got to see a couple of pieces of history, an old Japanese machine gun, and a nice recoil-less rifle. . . photos below. . ..

This was really cool to see in person.  It helps that I am a WWII history nut. . . .

When all was said and done another great blogger shoot.  Great to see all the folks again and can't wait to get to the next one. . . . all those folks, all those guns, and we all had a good time and no one got hurt. . . . so much for blood in the street like the anti's talk about. . .

Northeast Blogger Shoot

Well with all the others writing about the Northeast Blogger Shoot I am not sure I have much to add but I will give my report anyway and a few pictures. . .

UPdate - can't get video to load so here is the rest. . .

OK, now that you see what was there (not counting what folks had on their belt. . .)

First let me say it was a BLAST! (Pun intended) It was great to see you all again and a special THANKS to Doubletrouble and his wife for being nice enough to have us all over again for the shoot.

I also have to thank Bruce for the stickers. . . a few more pro-gun bumper stickers are always good for the car. . . . goes over well in the Peoples Republic of MA. . . .

There was plenty of folks this year, (more than last year I think) and plenty to shoot. Personally I got to test out a few guns I don’t own (and never will with the cost of a permit. . .) such as a full auto M-16 and a full auto MP-5. I also gave a try with a Mass legal .45 LDA 1911. I must admit though that I spent most of the day either talking or shooting my own black power as it makes a nice smoke cloud and the water jugs just EXPLODE when hit by it = ) Much fun!!! I also got some trigger time in on my .22, Enfield, WASA and AR . . . Also note that a watermelon will explode in about a 20’ radius when shot with an Enfield .303. No not mine, but wow, no more melon. . .

I had not done much with a black powder before the shoot. . . well. . . to be fair I put 5 shots through it the day before to practice loading it and that is it. All I can say is it is great to shoot water jugs with. They had a number of 2 ltr. bottles and milk jugs full of water. . . . one hit from the .50 black powder and they would just explode. . . as in when the smoke cleared the bottle was gone. . . . that was fun. I can see what they say about large slow moving lead doing lots of damage. . . I also can tell you they take a while to load and I can’t imagine trying to do that with someone shooting at me like they did in the old days. . .

As for the full auto stuff. . . the MP-5 was great and easy to control. The M-16 not so much. I can see why folks want either a 3 rd burst or semi-auto on that one. It was quick to empty a mag, but hard to keep on target. Big thanks for letting me try them folks!!

The Para LDA was different to shoot. The trigger was great, nice and smooth but I kept getting stove pipes with it. I am glad I had a try on it as I had been looking at one a few months back before I went with the S&W M&P in 9mm. I am now glad I did. The LDA was nice to shoot but not for me.

I think we need to add a warning for flying brass at these things when you are up by the firing line . . . down by the firing line the folks with the semi autos and pistols were tossing brass all over. Every now and again it would start landing on my hat. Good for a laugh. Where else can you go that it rains nice shiny brass like that?

They tried to post some Zombie targets on the back stop a few times. They lasted a bit but once the water bottles started to blow up the paper targets just ripped off the backstop with the wave of water. . . very impressive. Jay has a few photos of the before and after at the backstop. You would think someone had roto-tilled the dirt in front of it. . . .

After the attacking water bottles and jugs were taken care of we moved on to what was left of Pikachu. There were two bayonet charges, one by the boy who donated the poor thing and one by JayG. I will leave it to Boarpatch to post the vids of his son’s charge, here is the angle I had of JayG’s. . . . and yes, that is a bayonet on a pistol. . . . . . When the remains were taken down there were still bits of stuffing stuck to the backstop. I don’t think you can tell from the photos but for most of the day nothing was holding Pikachu up but the holes and stuffing in the backstop. The chain didn’t last long. . . .

The other toy offered up at the shoot was a robo dinosaur. I could not bring myself to shoot that one as I always thought those were real cool. . . if I was a kid . . . anyway there is film of that one you need to see over at Lissa’s blog. It was moving when the shooting started (.22 only) and once it was down folks started to hit it with bigger stuff. It was weird the way it twitched with each hit. . . I don’t hunt so I am not too use to that. . .

Now I have to update my "bloggers I have met list! Cool"

Northeast Blogger Meet, Greet, and Shoot

OK, I have to start off with the most important comment – JayG at Marooned has done it again!

A good time was had by all both at the dinner and at the shoot the next day. And did I mention that we all got to meet Ambulance Driver? Way cool.

Dinner was great! We had a semi-private area so we could all talk and make noise and otherwise have a great time. The food was good, the conversation was better, and it was hard to drink anything without the Class 2 Beverage Alert issues. . . AD is as funny in person as he is on the blog, possible funnier. It also didn’t help that the rest of the gunnies are a rather funny group too.

We had a great time, got to meet a bunch of new folks and Jay even managed to get a photo of all the knives we were carrying without getting arrested – not easy in MA. . . . You all need to go over to JayG’s blog Marooned to get the complete list of who was there but it was a bunch. While AD still topped the distance traveled list with his visit from way down south we also had a couple from Ohio Heath and his wife Amanda! All the way to MA to see AD and a bunch of folks from New England. Way to go!

The Shoot the next day had a few less folks being as it was a work day. Well worth the day off even if the Mass weather was against us with the coldest day of the week.

I will post what I have for some range pics tonight if I can but Jay has a bunch up. We had a great time and as you can see from the pile of brass much lead was send down range from everything from .22 pistols to the 1911’s and on the long guns again we went from .22s to Evil Black Rifles (of various sorts) and some bigger stuff like Enfields and such too

The event ended with the required bayonet charge of a random stuffed creature . . . film has already been posted on that one below. . .

I am sure I will think of more to post later. And I have to update my list of Bloggers I have now met! But I also have many guns that I have to clean tonight and get put away. . .

Thanks again to Jay for setting this all up and to Liz and Bill for hosting the shoot. It was great guys and gal, thanks so much for putting this together!

Oh ya, and a side note for all the hoplophobes. . . All them guns, knives and folks in one place and no one got hurt. . . I didn't even see one weapon try to make anyone do anything evil. . . sorry
= )

Bayonet Charge at Northeast Blogger Shoot

Here we go, a quick movie from the Bayonet Charge:

More on the shoot later and some photos

Some Blogger shoot Pics

Blogger Shoot ‘08

OK, here is a bit more detail on the event. . . Did I say I had fun yet??

As others have said better than I, there seems a problem with the logic of the gun grabbers in MA and elsewhere. I was around lots of armed folks all day, with lots of guns of all kinds going off, an no one got mad, no one got shot, no one got threatened but they all had a good time. I guess there is just something wrong with us, maybe the blogging but there was no blood spilled of any kind that I saw. . . . Maybe the Lefties are lying about guns????

That was an awesome time. There were lots of guns to try, targets to shoot and folks to talk to. I know I almost blew soda out my nose at least twice – there were some funny folks there. IF you thing the blogs are good you should meet them in person. . . . anyway it was a great time (did I say I had fun?)

It was great to meet all the folks, but the real fun was the shooting, after all that is what we were there for. I managed to spend most of my trigger time on my AR and WASR 10 but did get in a bit with the lever action. Sorry, forgot who but someone let me take a few shots at some skeet, and I have to say I may need to get me a shot gun. . . that was cool.

For me the most exciting part was the automatics that were there. Never having fired one before that was COOL. It was the Madsen m/50 in 9mm. Nice to shoot, not much muzzle clime and easy to control.

I have a list of the bloggers that were there on the side, go take a looks, some of them already have photos up and film of the bayonet charge on the Tella Tubby. . . Jay, that was cool, still smiling thinking about that. . .

The Furby also bought the farm (the great Furby Masacre of 08). I have photos of both that will be posted in the next day or so. Let me just say there is something funny about listing to Furby sing as he is hanging on a rope at the end of the range waiting for folks to unload on him. Poor bugger didn’t even get a last smoke or a blindfold but he did go out singing – now that is guts for a Furby.

The water jugs were fun to shoot at too. Once they got hit and blew water all over they would dance around the range nicely. One even ended up on the top of the backstop after getting hit by who knows what. The ground where they were ended up looking like someone had rotor tilled the place when we were done. Now that is a lot of lead going down range. . . . I have to second Marko’s comment that there were no deer within 5 miles. After all that I am sure we had all wildlife in the area on notice. . .

The only down side is I now know what it means to live in a free state. . . Imagine having a range in the back yard and no one cares. . .. I think I had my eyes opened. I thought I knew how repressive MASS was, but now I really know. Freedom tastes good, I know I am going to have to escape from MA as soon as it is viable to do so. Thanks to the housing market that won’t be soon enough I fear. . . . . . but I have seen freedom and I want to live there. The wife hates snow so we probably will head south, but that will do for me when the time comes. . . .

I am still grinning ear to ear after all that. My wife told me I sound like I just went to Disney World. . . . So yes, I have to say I had fun. I have even gotten comments at the office that I look like I had a good weekend = )

Update - I forgot to mention the keyboard. . . . When used as a skeet target they are quite impressive. All them keys raining down was quite a show. . . I don't think anyone got a photo of that one unfortunately. . .

Blogger shoot '08

Folks, that was great!!

I had a great time, it was a blast to meet you all, though next time I think we need name tags. . . . I was never good at the name thing. . .

I will get pics posted in a day or so after I go through them as I know some folks don't want to have their face on the net, maybe just because it would link them to the rest of us nuts

= )

any way, Thanks for setting it up JayG (even if you did get there fashionably late)!

And to our secret range host, thanks again for a great time!

Update - More info on the Monday post. . . . see above
