Majel Barrett has died. . .

From the Boston Herald:

NEW YORK - Majel Barrett Roddenberry, the widow of "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry, has died. She was 76. Roddenberry, an actress who appeared in numerous "Star Trek" TV shows and movies, died Thursday of leukemia at her home in Bel-Air, Calif., her representative said.

At Roddenberry’s side were family friends and her only son, Eugene Roddenberry Jr. Gene Roddenberry died in 1991.

Her romance with Roddenberry earned her the title "The First Lady of Star Trek." A fixture in the "Star Trek" franchise, her roles included Nurse Christine Chapel in the original "Star Trek," Lwaxana Troi in "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and the voice of the USS Enterprise computer in almost every spin-off of the 1966 cult series. She recently reprised the voice role in the upcoming "Star Trek" film directed by J.J. Abrams.

T'is a sad day but she is now back with Gene so there is an up side. I have been a Trekie since I was a kid. . . What can you say but "Thanks for the memories" and Rest in Peace.

I have been thinking it over and I have to say I agree. It is an interesting take on things and well worth the time to think about. . . Although I would expand it to any weapon you have on you. And as a martial artist I think it applies to that too but that is just me and my old fashion ways I guess. . .

And speaking of martial arts. . . good luck rendering me harmless. . . remember folks what most call a weapon is just a tool, it is your brain that is the real weapon. . .

Thoughts on the closing of The Munchkin Wrangler

Another blog I read on a daily basis is gone. . . .

He says for a break and I hope so since as I said it was good enough that I read it every day and a lot of the other blogs I read commented on the “missing” blog so that tells you something about how popular The Munchkin Wrangler was. . . Although I fully understand his reasoning behind the choice I am still a bit bummed out.

The writing was not only great but since he grew up in Germany and (I think) became a US citizen later it was great to see his take on thing going on in the world that he comment on. I think that we are rather isolated here in the US and our media has all but give up any pretense of being un-biased in the news reporting. Anyway the end result was whether or not I agreed with him it was good to see his take on what was going on.

See this other view not only helped me to understand all sides of a subject but at times made me realize how much trouble we are in with the US Main Stream Media and how they treat the news. This one sided reporting is dangerous. How can we the people and voters of this land make an intelligent and informed decision without all the facts? Heck, they can’t and that is how Obama has gotten as far as he has but we won’t go there as that is what the media wants for their golden child. . .

Anyway, good luck Marko and I hope you get back from your blogger vacation soon. . .

Happy Fourth!!

Well tomorrow is the 4th of July and I wish you all a safe and happy day celebrating the birth of this great country. We have much to celebrate as always, and maybe a bit more with Heller going our way with SCOTUS

It is a mixed day around our house. . . we will go to the Hingham parade in the morning to have some fun and pay our respects to the troops and vets that march every year. It will also be my Dad’s third birthday since his passing. . . so we will be swinging by the cemetery on the way home from the parade to pay our respects there too.

Its funny how it has gotten easier to deal with over time as they all said it would, but in some ways it has not and I don’t think it ever will. I still miss him a lot, and boy do I miss having his advice as I fumble my way through life. Anyway, until we meet again Happy Birthday Dad. . . .

So as to not end on a down note we did end up setting up an very impromptu cook out for Saturday since no one had anything planned. Figured it was a good excuse to get together and see folks that we have not seen in way too long. It is amazing how time flies with all the things a family gets involved in. . .

So have a good 4th y’all and remember to take a moment and think about all those who paid the bill and continue to pay it so we could have this great country to grow up in, live in and raise our kids in.

Thoughts for today. . .

Interesting discussion on the radio today. . . Triggered by the young folks backing Obama. . . Should all these young folks be able to vote?

It is an interesting question – yes they can vote, but do they have the background to actually make a good informed decision? Think about it. What were you doing in your early 20’s. . . I know many of these college kids and young folks seem to have a distorted view of the world. I don’t even speak about politics with my niece and nephew who are both college age or the younger kids in my Karate class. They are completely liberal yet they have worked very little, and don’t have any idea what it means to pay taxes, support a family, and pay a mortgage but they are ok with the Bush bad, guns bad, need more taxes to pay for X,Y or Z. And these folks are the ones backing Obama. . . I hope they do what they do every election and fail to turn out in any reasonable numbers.

I don’t know how one can do it and not run afoul of the Constitution but it seems to me that we let folks vote who just don’t have the life experience to really choose our President or understand the long term effect the liberal agenda will have on our country and our families if it is allowed to become law.

Folks may hate me for saying it but I think the Founding Fathers had it right in the old days when you had to be a land owner to vote. At least it insured that you were old enough to have land you were responsible for and hopefully understood what that meant. I think if you polled folks you would find folks that owned land, and had families are probably more on the conservative side than the rest of us are since they know how hard they work to support these responsibilities and how much BIG government (ie – Taxes) spending hurts them.

Who knows, but something to thing about next time you see some college kid living off Mom and Dad tells you that we need more government programs and taxes. . . .
