Karate Problems

Well, it has been two months since I hit karate class. . . December was nuts with T working so many hours and all. We didn’t want to have the kids and grandmoms doing too much babysitting. . . they can only do so much before he runs them ragged. . .

Got a call from one of my friends from class wondering if I had quit or not. Said I don’t really know myself. I do want to get back into it but with all the hours T had been working it was just easier to stay home. I think I needed a break too – my knees seem much better after the break . . . .

I really need to get back into it though. This is the only real exercise I get and it is fun when I am there. . . And it is good on the self defense side of things. . . not too bad with the facebook stalker I picked up too. . . . can’t carry everywhere so. . . .

I have to admit the Masons has been taking some time too. And I totally love that! I have met a bunch of great guys there and it has been lots of fun. The one down side has been that I end up spending a few nights a week out, and the my wife is out the other few nights a week working and so we don’t see much of each other at the moment. . . .

I need a good way to snap out of this and get back into things. I am a year or so away from testing for my black belt. Seems nuts to quit now. . . .

Another great song

THE LEGEND OF CATHAIN - by Grant Lee Philips

Bid Goddess rise, from mists of memory
Rise, the fair Cathain
In battle the equal of every man
And every lover disdained
Her heart was locked in a roundtower's keep
And none that gate could unbar
Till rose a prince from Ulster's east
The hero Conchobar

A suitor's troth he brought Cathain
In wild Connemar'
He bade her teach him feats of arms
And the bloody arts of war
And what, said she, will you teach me
Who dwells here all alone?
The pleasures of love, said Conchobar
I will melt your heart of stone.

So King and warrior thus were joined
In battles blood and love
The throne belonged to Conchobar
To Cathain, the Witch's Glove
The world soon turned his heart away
So back to Connemar'
She westward rode to dwell alone
Away from Conchobar

Dark rivals rose against the king
To challenge for his throne
All Ulster in the balance hung
Without its champion
A Druid he sent to sacrifice
An offering to Cathain
A maiden fair, with flaxen hair
Not once, but two times slain

But Cathain, she would ne'r return
To rescue Conchobar
Till the Druid did a virgin bring
To Connemara far
The fair Iona pure and sweet
upon the table lain
And by the corclach's hungry stone
Was Cathain's own daughter slain

In rage the warrior goddess
From the western sea arose
Her bloody gauntlet dealt that day
a thousand fierce death-blows
The kingdom saved, her quest complete
she sank beneath the shore
Till Ulster's sons with sacrifice
Bid her return once more.

Should have seen it In Color. . .

With a hat tip to Borepatch and his country music blogs. . .

Here is one that hits home now and probably will for a while. . .

Jamey Johnson - In Color

I said grandpa whats this picture here its all black and white it aint real clear is that you there? He said yeah i was 11 times were tough back in '35 thats me and uncle Joe just tryin to survive a cotton farm in the great depression.

If it looks like we were scared to death like a couple of kids just trying to save each other you should've seen it in color.

Ohh and this one here was taken over seas in the middle of hell in 1943 in the winter time you can almost see my breath that was my tail gunner ole Johnny Magee he was a high school teacher from new Orleans and he had my back right through the day we left.

If it looks like we were scared to death like a couple of kids just trying to save each other you should've seen it in color.

A picture's worth a thousand words but you cant see what those shades of gray keep covered you should've seen it in color

This one is my favorite one. This is me and grandma in the summer sun all dressed up the day we said our vows. You can't tell it here but it was hot that June and that rose was red and her eyes were blue and just look at that smile I was so proud. Thats the story of my life right there in black and white

And if it looks like we were scared to death like a couple of kids just trying to save each other you should've seen it in color.

A pictures worth a thousand words but you cant see what those shades of gray keep covered you should have seen it in color.

You should have seen it in color

Yeah a pictures worth a thousand words but you cant see what those shades of gray keep covered you should have seen it in color.

Facebook

OK, I got my Facebook account set up and even linked to a few fellow gun bloggers. Is it just me or is it rather amazing who you can get back in touch with on this thing?

I am rather embarrassed that my wife set up her account and got flooded with folks she knew . . . me not so much. . . . I guess I am/was more of a geek than I thought. . . Too much D&D in school I guess. . . .

I admit I am not looking to have millions of friends on Facebook. I want to at least know the person some how that I am connecting to - either through reading their blog or having met them at some point or even just having emailed back and forth so I at least know a bit about them.

I am glad we didn't have this when I was in school. . . I would have killed way too much time on the net and Facebook. . . I think I would have gotten creamed on my grades and then the folks would have killed me and that would be that. So I am here today to play on Facebook and blog because I could not do this years ago when I was in school. . . .

My Name is JD and I am a Geek

OK, I was just watching the Discovery Channel which currently has a program on on how they make stuff. They are talking about a new type of bullet "proof" glass.

This stuff will stop .50 cal and is better than all the others (so they say)

The secret? Aluminum Oxide in the glass. It is still clear with a slight tint.

As a geek the first thing I thought of was "OH COOL they made transparent aluminum"

If you know Star Trek 4 then you know what I mean. . . . .

Yes, I am such a geek. . . .
