Batman Shooting

Folks I am really getting sick of watching the news dance in the blood of these poor folks.  I am sorry there was a shooting, and I grave for the families, they are in my prayers but really now can we have a reality check?

This guy put a lot of thought and prep into this. . . .no one noticed?  And the news folks are taking about Columbine. . . Like it has any connection other than being in the same state.  I am sure the calls for gun control will be quick to follow as if that would have stopped this.

Folks stop focusing on the tool.  We need to know why he did this and how he kept it secret.

The gun is not the issue.  He had tear gas, gas mask and bullet proof vest. . .  I am told the theater was a gun free zone, so it's illegal to have a gun in the theater. . . Ya, that worked about as well as the other gun free zones we have. . He was going to do this no matter what.  Would you be happier if he used a pipe bomb or Molotov cocktail?  Killing is illegal and he had no problems planning that - you think he would have cared if his weapon of choice was illegal too?

As for the gun free zones, when will we grow up and admit that a gun free zone has never saved a life, and if anything puts us all in danger since these nuts know that if they attack there no one has the tools to stop them.  Reality time - a gun free zone does nothing but insure the attacker gets free time to shoot until the cops can get there. . .  .nothing more.

I pray for the victims and their families. . . And I pray that we will not let the anti rights crowd use this to distract us from the real issue of what was wrong with this nut that caused him to do this.  The tool used is irrelevant.

That Time Again

OK folks, wish me luck. . . .

It is that time again.  That time when those of us who live in MA and own guns have to go beg to be allowed to keep our 2ed Amendment rights.

I am one of the lucky ones.  My town has a great Police Chief who respects our rights and I fully expect my license to be renewed after they do the background check. . . others are not so lucky.

Those that say MA is the way to do things are fools.  They don't get it.  If I move towns or get a new Chief of Police they can pull my permit for no reason at all.  Yes, you read that correctly.  Your ability to OWN a gun, never mind carry one is totally dependent on the Chief of Police deciding that you are qualified.  He/She can refuse you for any reason including feeling that you are not a good candidate for a permit.  Even if you have a clean record and never had a run in with the law.

And what happens if you loose your permit?  you get to sell all your guns.  You can appeal it and may win, but you will have to pay for your guns to be stored while you appeal.

So today I go for my renewal.  After paying $100 to exercise my "right" I should get it, as I said we have a good Chief and Police force here in town.  They respect us and we respect them.  And in six years I get to do it all over again. . . .

This is why permits need to be shall issue.  It is not a right if someone can strip it from you based on a gut feeling folks.  Rights should only be stripped by a court of law.

Oh and by the way, Thanks Mitt for that nice $100 fee.  Use to only be $25 for my permit but instead of raising taxes Mitt Romney raised fees all over and that was one of them.  If he figured your interest group was small enough he added to your fees, since you couldn't do anything about it. . . .He also signed off on the Assault Weapons Ban we are still dealing with here in MA. . ..  He is no friend to our rights or our paychecks folks.  He may not raise taxes but expect fees for anything you do to go up big time if he wins. . . .

Someday I hope we can fix this state. . . . or that I can at least move to a free state. . . .

Guns go Mainstream

It was great to see on tv this morning. . .

While looking for something to watch on TV our cable has a channel called Verses which is part of NBC Sports.

They had two great shows on, one on Three Gun Challenges and the sport in general.  Lots of good info and a look at the shooting sports.  It was followed by a Guns and Gear show that went over guns, and gear such things like laser practice stuff and holsters, sights . . .

Both shows were good, and it was GREAT to see them on TV.  I think this shows we are winning the hearts and minds.  Guns are becoming normal again. . .

North East Blogger Shoot

Had a great time this weekend at the 4th annual NE blogger shoot. . .

The oldest daughter and I went up for a day at the secret range to see friends, and try out lots of guns and overall have a great time.

Got to shoot a semi auto 1919. . . that was cool.  And an automatic belt fed .22  - fun and no recoil. . . and I got a good photo of me with a recoilless rifle. . .

the killer for the day was the 3" turkey shot loads. . .. in 12 ga. . .. OUCH.  I can still feel that one.

Many others have much better reviews, but let me just say it was a great way to spend the day. . . .

Al Qaeda, Gun Shows and the Media

And coming as no surprise to anyone, the Main Stream Media has fallen in with Al Qaeda and is parroting their taking points word for word.

Al Qaeda in an attempt to further dis-arm us and in showing it's desperation at coming up with some kind of attack in the US they are calling for a loan wolf attack here.  And to make it happen they are saying "go to a gun show and buy automatic weapons and attack the US"

Folks, the media is all over this as they can (and are) using it to push for more gun control.  They have signed on 100% for this lie and are pushing it.

Lets get this straight shall we?  You can not walk into a gun show and buy an automatic weapon.  ANYWHERE!

The laws around automatics are numerous and federal, so you can't just go over the state line to get one.  You have to jump through many many hoops on the fed level, such as paying fees, getting background checks and all that good stuff.  The only folks that can buy an automatic weapon have been thoroughly checked by the Fed. . .  Of course if you are up on Operation Gun Walker you know the Fed likes to give guns to the bad guys to push their anti gun agenda but that is another story.

To make a long story short, no, you can not get the guns and bombs Al Qaeda says you can at a gun show or gun shop.  It don't work that way.

Remember, gun control is not about the guns, it is about the control.  We are well armed and getting even better armed every day.  This is a problem for Al Qaeda and the loan wolf idea.  They know that. . . . One armed citizen can turn their great attack into a minor news story by taking out their lone wolf.  They need to fix that and the way to do it is to take our guns away.  Don't let them.  We won't.

MA gun laws take another step away from America . . .

Massachusetts: Lowell proposes "arsenal" law

Lavallee, Middlesex District Attorney Gerard Leone and Rep. Kevin Murphy helped city officials craft a home rule petition seeking the power to require owners of 10 or more firearms to notify police of the weapons' location within 24 hours of possessing them. The proposed law would also require owners of more than 10 firearms to secure them in a locked safe or vault and install an alarm system with central monitoring that would notify police when the alarm is activated.

Just in case any of you thought MA was even close to still being part of America or a state with any liberty.  I hope this gets tossed but here you never know.

Ya, I am sure all the gangs in Lowell will be the first down to the cops to tell them about all there illegal guns. . . NOT. . . .

GOD I can't wait till I can get out of this nuthouse. . . .

MA pissing away money

You know the best part of living in Massachusetts is that we have eliminated all of our budget woes and are in great shape financially. How else can you explain these two bills trying to get passed on Beacon Hill:

MA State Senator Andrew Petruccelli and his bill to make GPS in guns mandatory

From The Truth about Guns- the bills wording-

The Global Positioning System Locators in Firearms Study Commission shall consist of 7 members; the House of Representatives Chair on Public Safety and Homeland Security, the Senate Chair on Public Safety and Homeland Security, one member of the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, appointed by the Secretary of the Executive Office and Public Safety and Security, one designee from the Gun Owners’ Action League (“GOAL”), one Chief of Police from a city or town, appointed by the Governor, one designee from the City of Boston Mayor’s Office, appointed by the Mayor of Boston, one designee appointed by the Boston City Council.

The commission shall report to the general court the results of its investigation and study, together with drafts of legislation necessary to carry such recommendations into effect by filing the same with the clerk of the senate before the bill filing deadline for the 2013-2014 general court session.

And then we have the second winner - Micro stamping: (from No Lawyers, only guns and money)

Rep. David Paul Linsky (D-Middlesex) has introduced House Bill 1561 in the Massachusetts State House. The bill would mandate all semi-automatic rifles, shotguns, and pistols sold or manufactured in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts be capable of imprinting a "microstamp" on the face of a cartridge effective January 1, 2012.

So it would seem that all of our big problems have been fixed and we have time and money to waste on this foolishness.

All our roads are fixed, homeless housed, welfare folks cared for, jobs for all, our schools, fire and police have all they need. . . ..

Folks this is money wasted and that is all. The people of this state should be screaming at the top of their lungs at these fools for even bringing this BS up.

Micro stamps – supposed to imprint info about the gun on the bullet case when fired. Sounds good right? Ya, costs a fortune, has not be shown to work yet, and can be removed by the bad guy with 5 minuets and a file. . . .

GPS so you know where every gun is when a crime is committed sound good right? Who will pay for all the tracking software, people to run it and the HUGE storage needs for the data? And what do you do about all the guns already out there that don’t have it? And how do you keep the bad guys from just pulling the battery out?  I don't even think there is a GPS out there small enough to fit in a gun and handle the shock of use. . . .

We need a wake up call in this state. We have far more important things going on like our roads falling apart, our healthcare system bankrupting us, homeless folks, food banks running out of funds and food. . . I could go on but you get the point. This is BS.

Gun control, what you do instead of FIXING SOMETHING!

ATF Gun Walker case

So where the heck is this going???  We have only one Congressman looking into it, and the news folks who love to scream about American guns in Mexico are ignoring it.

Thank God that Senator Charles Grassley is the one.  He is going after the Attorney General on why this is not being pursued.

Of course we know that answer already don't we. . .. If they can show that the ATF is running guns in to Mexico it is hard to blame US gun shows or shops for it isn't it. . . .

Mexico is a failed state on our border, our very open border.  And Obama and friends are arming our enemies to forward their own agenda to limit our rights.

This should be Obamas Watergate. . . Too bad we don't have real journalists any more to follow up on it. . .

Gunrunner becomes Gunwaker and the BATFE joins the crime

Go read it HERE

Looks like the BATFE is helping the Mexican drug lords get guns, then blaming lax gun laws here. . . a win win for the power grab folks.  They get points with the drug lords and they get an excuse to push for new gun control. . . .

Remember folks, it is all about the contorl.

New Holster from Dragon Leatherworks

OK, I have the 1911 Government and now thanks to Dragon Leatherworks I have the holster for it.

I know JayG has done a review of the Fugly holster and I had the chance to meet Dragon at the last Blogger Shoot last summer.  When I sent out a bleg for info on holsters Dragon was one of the folks that sent me info and so I went with his Fugly holster, for IWB on the right side.

Let me start with the first impression I had when I opened the box. . .  WOW, nice holster!  It is a very nice leather holster with rivets to make sure it stays together.  Here is a good shot of the rivets holding this thing together:

And a nice view of the front of the holster:

Now I am use to the cheap collapsible nylon holsters.  They are great to start but not really good for long term.  They don't stay open so you can't put the gun back easily.  All that is over with this one.  Just to see how it would work out I put this on with my belt tight and the holster stayed open no problem.  Even with jeans that were a bit tight, no problem with draw or reholster. . .  It keeps it shape.

I wore it around the house as I worked for the better part of the day and it was great.  It takes a bit of getting use to the creak of the leather that I am not use to but it blends in good and did not print at all with my tee shirt on, though I would put more over it just to be safe going out in public.

Overall I am thrilled with it and plan on using this for my 1911 once I have a bit more practice with it and the comfort to use it as my carry gun.  Two thumbs up, go visit Dragon Leatherworks for a great holster at good holster prices!

NPR helps the gun grabbers

You can read about it over at Tam's place.

Looks like NPR, the bastion of news reporting was staking the deck on their news show about the new bill to ban standard capacity magazines for guns. . . .

You can see from her blog that they went looking for gun bloggers that would support the ban to get on the air so they can make it sound like everyone is behind this idea. . . .

Not even close.  The girl they got turns out to be a fake, she use to work for the gun grabbers over at the American Hunters and Shooters association. . . which is now defunct.

Don't buy what you hear on this for a moment.  Personally I don't think this bill is going anywhere because the House knows it will come back to haunt them.  What this Dem wants to do is ban standard capacity magazines by calling them Hi Cap even though eveyone has them. . . so they are standard, nothing special.  And they try to tell you that you don't need them. . . but the cops do.

How does that work?  The cops are more likely to have back up, more likely to not get mugged than I am.  But I need fewer rounds than they do?  I get jumped by a couple of dudes who are high and want to shoot me and take my wallet and I don't need more than 10 rounds.  The cops have back up and more but they do need more than 10 rds.

This is a joke.

And I will say it again, gun control is dead in the House so I don't see this going anywhere.  I predict that this will be old news by the end of the month.

MA Gun Stores

I have found another one. . . about an hour or so away from me but worth the trip.  I work with the owner and he finally talked me into coming by this weekend to see his shop.

The web page is HERE

Pheasant Ridge is located in Seekonk, just over the boarder in MA on rt 44.

It is a small shop, but don't let that fool you.  I got the $.10 tour and let me tell you that the stuff on display in front is just a sample of what he has in back.  The prices were good, and he has plenty of ammo for those of us looking for the hard to get like .380 and such.

As for guns he has a great selection of long guns with plenty more in back, you just need to tell him what you are looking for.  He also has a good selection of handguns too.  You can also get a number of different classes through the shop as he is NRA certified to teach a number of courses.

Overall a great shop, well worth the stop.  The staff know their stuff, and will take the time to make sure you get the right gun or to answer your questions. . . if you are in the area stop by and check him out!

Mail Order Ammo - Not in MA

One of the many bummers about living in MA is we can not get ammo by Mail Order.  And when you can't find what you want on the local store shelf what do you do?

This hit me the worst when I first bought my WASR 10.  I got it because the ammo was supposed to be cheap and easy to get. .  .  NOT.

I kept seeing places like the Sportsman's Guide selling the 7.62x39 ammo for great prices but I couldn't take advantage of it. . . . good old MA got in the way as usual.

I just hope the rest of you living in the free world appreciate your rights. . . .

In the interest of full disclosure Sportsman's Guild did pay for the link. . . . but I do like there stuff too . . .

Finally they have come to MASS

You can read it HERE

Looks like MA is finally being sued over how we hand out gun licences to only the folks the Police Chief likes even if they have a spotless record. . . .

Pray they win this and turn us into a shall issue state from the BS they pull now.

For those of you living in the free world MA  gun permits are at the whim of the local police chief.  So if you are lucky enough to live in a town where he respects your rights then you can have a permit, if you don't then he can say NO PERMIT FOR YOU and you can't do much but sue him over it. . .  so if you don't have the money for court (every time you renew too) then you don't get a permit and can't own a gun. . .

Gotta wonder why MA is the state with the highest crime rate in the NE don't ya with laws like this. . . .

Keep your fingers crossed and we may make some headway against all the BS in this state

Auto Ordinance 1911 review

Auto Ordinance 1911

OK I got a chance to get the new Gov 1911 down to the range to try it out. The short story, I think I have found a new favorite gun!

The 1911 Gov by Auto Ordinance is a no frills standard GI gun with a seven round mag. The one I have is parkerized with plastic grips.

She shoots well if maybe a bit low at 25 yards. I will have to go a few more times before I can tell if it is me or the gun. The sights are small so it takes a bit of getting use to.

I started with standard Winchester white box ball ammo and she ran great. All on the paper, most low but one in the 10 ring. . .. had to love that. After 20 rounds of ball I put 20 rounds of Winchester white box hollow points through it and she still ran fine.

After a total of 80 rounds or so I called it a day. . . It was an outdoor range in MA on New Years eve after all so it was a bit cold and we did have 6+ inches of snow on the ground to get through to the targets. . . . but a great day !

Can’t wait to put a few more rounds through it and see if I need to adjust the sights a bit. I have to say this is a great gun as far as I am concerned. A great start to the 1911 family. I think this will make a great carry gun once I get use to it and get it sighted in. I am glad I got it and highly recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable 1911.

Gunny Christmas

We had a great Christmas.  Did dinner Christmas eve with my mom and in laws and another dinner Christmas day at my brother in laws. . .

The kids got spoiled as usual and we all did very well.

I had a gunny Christmas myself:

That is my first 1911. . . an Auto Ordnance Gov. model. . . now if I can get this damn snow to stop long enough for me to get to the range and try it out I can do a good report

1911 A1 questions

Looking for info on the NEW Auto Ordnance 1911 A1 guns.  Sounds like they are good for the money so I am thinking about getting one.  Does anyone have experence with these?  How did they work out?  How is the gun and the factory mags?

Thanks

The Quest continues

Well I am still saving up for my next gun. .  . almost there I think.

I am looking to get my hands on a 1911.  With a bit of luck it will be a basic government type gun.  I am not looking for anything special like stainless steal or anything.  I want it to look as government issue as I can get.

It will also mean I have the basic calibers that I have been looking for.  I already have a .380 and a 9mm, this would get me a .45.  That will leave me with just an auto loading .22 that I am missing.  May just get a conversion kit for the 1911 when I can get it.  They still don't make one for the M&P 9mm which I wish they would.  If I am going to practice with a gun it would be nice to be a carry piece and not a separate .22.

Well anyway, I hope to have a new piece in a few months with a bit of luck. . . . .
