A New Party

I was over at Gunslingers reading her comments about how the election is going and her thoughts on the Republican party and becoming an Independent due to the Republicans loosing direction. . . or at least their conservative credentials and it hit me, we need a new party

I think we need a new independent part, say the Founders Party. The goal of the party would be to promote the Constitution, go for a smaller Federal Government, and to be guided by the Constitution and the other writings of the Founding Fathers.

Think of it as a back to basics party:
Small government
Lower taxes
Secure borders
End the welfare state
Stop nation building
Live by the Bill of Rights, the Constitution and the Federalist Papers
Get the government and liberals out of schools, teach what really needed like history – no more social experiments with the kids
End any government discrimination including affirmative action
Get government out of the business world as much as possible, FREE MARKET folks, it works. . .
Get the government out of our lives as much as possible

I don’t know, but it is a thought.

Now, how do we go about making it real?

I think that securing the borders is contradictory to the notion of small government.

There are various methods for securing the borders.

1)You can build unmonitored walls or fences, but these will take a lot of initial man power, and then repair.

2)You can have more people patrolling the border, but this is obviously bigger government.

3)The pie in the sky contract of huge government border defense is to have a bunch of unmanned UAVs monitor the border. That would cost the big bucks.

The border is 3000 miles, and all of the solutions above are imperfect for various reasons.

1)An actual wall is bad for the wildlife around the border. When it goes through the US, it inevitably infringes on someone's property rights.

2)More people who are paid not well means more border guards susceptible to taking bribes.

3)Big government contractors. Need I say more on this one and the expense associated with big government contractors?

You missed one way to keep illegals out. Make sure they can't get by here. . . A few states (Oklahoma is one I think) have passed laws that punish you for hiring, renting or helping them and guess what, they have been shown to be leaving OK and going to other states. We are seeing it here in MA to where we are getting them from RI who is running them out of town.

I would like to see them get ID'd for medical treatment and deported. . . .

Fences are ok, but to really make it work we have to make it hurt too much to be here illegally. Once we get them out of the way we can focus our efforts on security from hostiles trying to get in here.

We need to shut down illegals in this country for many reasons, both the cost to us and security.

That's pretty much the libertarian platform other than the closed borders. I agree with s_baghaii that closing the borders requires too much government.

I think open borders is the way to go, once the welfare state is dismantled. What cost is there from immigrants once the government is no longer providing handouts to ANYONE at taxpayer expense?

What was the immigration policy in the early days of the US? I'll have to do some research.

Except the Libertarians have done like the other parties and their pick for president does not really have their values. .. .

And we need to do something about the borders, not for the illegals but for security, the terrorists such as Al Qaeda still want to get us
