In the News

550 tons of Yellow Cake Uranium shipped from Iraq to Canada. . . . Guess Sadam may have been up to something after all. . . wonder if this will ever make the main stream media. . . . This was not the right kind of stuff to make a nuke with but it would make a hell of a nice dirty bomb if the wrong folks got it. . . .

From the NYSUN

Here's a story you may have missed over the long holiday weekend: 550 metric tons of yellowcake uranium worth tens of millions of dollars were shipped out of Iraq to Canada. The material was transported in 37 military flights in 3,500 secure barrels, according to the Associated Press.

That article leaves more questions than it answers. When was this from? Was it useful?

The International Herald Tribune has a better article entitled Yellowcake Removed From Iraq Nuclear Site.

In Paragraph 3, it says
"Although the material could not be used in its current form for a nuclear weapon or even a so-called dirty bomb, officials decided that in Iraq's unstable environment, it was important to make sure that it did not fall into the wrong hands"

I am sure it could be used as a dirty bomb, just not a real nuke.

In the US, the damage would be done just because it was yellowcake no matter what the real level of danger was.

Seems only the news papers are covering this at all and they don't get the exposure they use to. I really want to see if it is on the news tonight.

Nice try... but you can't enrich it with out a reactor. Saddams was destroyed in the early 80's.. a "dirty bomb" could just as easily be made with radioactive medical waste. The only thing it would actually cause is to spread fear and panic and contaminate an area. The death toll would be non-existent.

fear and panic is what they want. It is almost as good as a death toll especially if they did it in a major US city. Can you imagine if everyone was afraid of going on Wall Street or such? what about in DC? The fear and the fact it was Uranium would have the masses going nuts. It would be a HUGE propaganda win for them

Granted... but fear and panic does not require "yellow cake". Oklahoma City was accomplished with fertilizer and fuel oil.

Keeping potential terrorists out of the country ... having good security regulations will go along way to prevention and we wouldn't have to spend 1 trillion sending 150,000 people overseas.

Agreed but I think the effect of this on our country would make the bombing of OK City or even the mail anthrax scare look mild. The magic word - Radioactive - would cause panic like we have not seen before I think. . . .
