International Peace Day

How fitting, yesterday was International Peace Day. . . So while the tree hugger hippy types were out learning how to surrender my older daughter and I went down to a friends gun range where they were having a kids day! Anyone could come and shoot as long as your brought a kid with you. They had instructors set up at every gun so it went smooth and the kids got help with how to safely handle and shoot each type of gun. They were great with the kids and answering all the questions that came up.

She had a great time. We started with her trying skeet with a 20 Ga. She missed it but is now hooked and wants to do skeet at our club. . . . from there we moved over to the 200 yard range where she got to try her had with an AR-15 set up for target shooting. Now our club range only goes to 100 yards and she had never tried that before but she did well, three shots, three 8's. not too bad. It was funny to hold an AR that they had added weight to for accuracy, mine is stock as I like to keep the military rifles as close to original as I can. . . . we then moved on to lever action .22s with scopes on them shooting at 25 yards. Also fun, but she like iron sights better. . . .

After a quick lunch she got to try archery for the first time and loved that too. . . . Now I am going to have to figure out how to set up a small range in the back yard. . . . I have a small bo around here somewhere. . . .

We finished the day with her trying black power, both a flint lock and a cap rifle. She did good with both.

On the way home she was thrilled to have had the chance to try all the guns out! To top it off, it was great weather for it too!

I thought this was agreat way to introduce new shooters, although I don't know how many were totaly new to the sport, my daughter is not that's for sure. It was also great to see that they had a few of those AR-15's there so folks to try them and see that it is just a gun and not the "EVIL BLACK RIFLE" that the medial loves to play. . . . Good way to win harts and minds.

So, how did you spend International Peace Day?
