Great Self Defense Story
"Charles Johnson is a man of his word.
On Oct. 4, 1936, then 19, Johnson promised to love and protect his bride, Berlie Mae.
On Tuesday, he did.
Now 91, he scared off two home invaders with his 38-caliber revolver when the men threatened his wife of 72 years at their home east of Ocoee.
One of my favorite
I would credit the graphic but I don't know who to credit so just know that I found it on the web. . .
Is it safer in the Gun Free UK?
The data, released under the Freedom of Information Act, shows police forces in England and Wales recorded 277 knife murders in the 12 months to April 2008.
If confirmed, the figures, which were obtained by the Conservative party, will be the highest since records began 30 years ago and represent a rise of 38% since 1999. [More]
I guess they really do just find another weapon to use when you take away the guns. It was a nice idea but all you do is shift the advantage to the young and the strong by outlawing the guns. . . . Do we really want to become the UK? it is not as safe as they want you to think. . . .
I want to see what the data is for London but they probably won't release that since it would show their failure. . .
Israel and Gaza
Who cards about McKinney? Why is she news? This woman is a nut best left out of any press she wants.
As for the attack on Gaza? They started it and expected no one to fight back? I only have one comment for Israel – Carpet Bombing works . . . . . Level the place and push them into the sea.
Why do the Palestinians start this crap and expect everyone to back them? They act like terrorists, they can pay the bill for it. Don’t start a fight and expect to get away with it. Sorry.

Christmas 2008
The rest of the family did ok too. I got T a few cook books she wanted and she got me the Band of Brothers DVD set (which I spend all of Friday watching).
Jack got a toy bulldozer from his Grandmother that he just loved. It makes noise and lights up when you push different buttons. . . It also runs around when one button is pushed. He has been playing with that a bunch all weekend.
A got herself a game for the Wii this weekend that she has been playing and she got some closes she wanted from the family. C got a guitar from her Uncle and Cousin who promised to teach her to play. . . . She is all excited about that one.
Since this was our first Christmas without Papa Tony we had Grandma stay over Christmas eve so she could be there with the kids in the morning. That went very well and although we missed him this year we did OK I think. My mom was down for present opening too since she is living with us in her apartment now.
The four day weekend went by quick since T was working a lot of it at BJ’s. It is hard having her working but the way things are the extra cash helps out this time of year. We don’t know how things will work out on that since she is “seasonal” help and may not get picked up for part time work after January.
I hope you all had as good a Christmas as we did. I can’t believe it is almost 2009!

The Day After. . . .
The big gift here was a Wii and Wii Fit. The kids and parents have both been on it all day yesterday. . . . I can't believe that I like the golf game. I am not a big golf fan and can't swing a club to save my life but the game is fun and basic enough that I can actually play it! The bowling has been fun for the whole family too.
Now I need a good flying or shooting game. . . . maybe one of the WWII ones. I will have to see what I can get for used games to start out.
Well, more later. I have to get the pictures downloaded off the camera and posted here and on the web page / Facebook for family to see. . . . . Maybe this afternoon. . . .
Later y'all

OK, also probably not work safe to actually play some of them. . . .
Slow day at the office
You are an Anti-government Gunslinger, also known as a libertarian conservative. You believe in smaller government, states’ rights, gun rights, and that, as Reagan once said, “The nine most terrifying words in the English language are, ‘I’m from the government and I’m here to help.’”

Merry Christmas and Thank You to the troops
An article on SpecialOperations.com says the poem was actually written by Corporal James M. Schmidt, described as a former U.S. Marine Scout-sniper and that is was published in LEATHERNECK MAGAZINE in December of 1991, two years before Lt. Col Lovely claimes to have written it.
Whoever wrote it is not as important as reading it. . . .
TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS,
HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF
PLASTER AND STONE.
I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY
WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
AND TO SEE JUST WHO
IN THIS HOME DID LIVE.
I LOOKED ALL ABOUT,
A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS,
NOT EVEN A TREE.
NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,
JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES
OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.
WITH MEDALS AND BADGES,
AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,
A SOBER THOUGHT
CAME THROUGH MY MIND.
FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT,
IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,
I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER,
ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.
THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING,
SILENT, ALONE,
CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR
IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.
THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE,
THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER,
NOT HOW I PICTURED
A UNITED STATES SOLDIER.
WAS THIS THE HERO
OF WHOM I'D JUST READ?
CURLED UP ON A PONCHO,
THE FLOOR FOR A BED?
I REALIZED THE FAMILIES
THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,
OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS
WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.
SOON ROUND THE WORLD,
THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE
A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.
THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM
EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS,
LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.
I COULDN'T HELP WONDER
HOW MANY LAY ALONE,
ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE
IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.
THE VERY THOUGHT
BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE,
I DROPPED TO MY KNEES
AND STARTED TO CRY.
THE SOLDIER AWAKENED
AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,
"SANTA DON'T CRY,
THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE;
I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM,
I DON'T ASK FOR MORE,
MY LIFE IS MY GOD,
MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS."
THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER
AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,
I COULDN'T CONTROL IT,
I CONTINUED TO WEEP.
I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS,
SO SILENT AND STILL
AND WE BOTH SHIVERED
FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL.
I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE
ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,
THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR
SO WILLING TO FIGHT.
THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,
WHISPERED, "CARRY ON SANTA,
IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE."
ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH,
AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT.
"MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND,
AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT."
This poem was written by a Marine stationed in Okinawa Japan. The
following is his request. I think it is reasonable.....
PLEASE. Would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many people as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our U.S. service men and women for our being able to celebrate these festivities.
Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us. Please, do your small part to plant this small seed.
Santa is on his way. . .
Update - if you look at the tabs on the page you can use Google Earth to track him in 3D. .. . may have to try that when I get home. . ..

Bay State Population Growth
What they won't say is that the national average was .9% and that although the northeast is seeing some growth it is on the low side compared to the rest of the country.
The damn liberals are killing this state and this area but because of slight growth they claim the trend is reversing. Before I buy it I want to know what the growth is? Are we gaining educated people coming for jobs and to build a family or are they uneducated illegals drawn here by the social programs and hand outs. . .
Hint - most educated folks I know want out or are stuck here due to the back housing market or other ties. MA sucks, you can't hid the facts with this smoke screen. . . .
Funny how the fastest growing state is a conservative red state. . . .
From CNN -
Only two states lost population: Michigan and Rhode Island, losing 0.5 and 0.2 percent respectively. Overall, Northeastern states are not growing as fast as other parts of the country, but they have been on the increase since 2005.
Utah is the nation's fastest growing state, increasing 2.5 percent from July 2007 to July 2008, according to new population estimates from the Census Bureau.
From the Globe -
But the state's population fell behind Washington and Arizona and it now ranks smaller than 14 other states, which means Massachusetts could lose one of its 10 seats in the US House of Representatives.

Great Start to the Week
But as usual Anderson Fuel was right there when I called and they are now working on it. I have to say these guys are great to deal with. They have always gotten someone in ASAP whenever we have had an issue with our oil burner or run out of oil. They are based out of Scituate MA, so if you need an oil company in that area I have to say two thumbs up for Anderson Fuel.
Now I hope it is an easy fix and I don't need new parts but we will see when he is done.
I guess the week should be all down hill from here (keeping fingers crossed)
What a weekend
Cleaned the driveway once on Saturday and twice on Sunday. Lucky for me the second time was just before the rain hit. Now my driveway is clear but a nice sheet of ice. . . .
They say we may get up to 27F here today so it ain't gonna melt either. Love that global warming, where is my 70 deg day?
And after all this crap it is supposed to get to the mid 40's on Wednesday and rain just so we don't have a White Christmas. I think we earned the White Christmas this year . . . . .
well, welcome to winter . . . .
Hope you all had a good Solstice yesterday and Happy Hanukkah to you all today. . . .

Morning Radio
How to cut state spending. Due to the snow all non-essential personnel have been told to stay home. Now that we know who they are we need to lay them off the state payroll as they are not needed. . . now lets see how much we can cut the budget.
If only. Will never happen. The ranks of the "non-essential" have actually grown under our dear ruler Deval. . .
It was a nice ride in today. It feels very weird to do the speed limit on 128 at rush hour. . .
HERE COMES THE SNOW
should start after noon some time if they got it right.
Not that I ever believe the weather guy but just in case he is right I took in the truck today. I figured the way they like to play bumper cars on 128 I want something big enough that they will know if they hit me. . . . and the 4WD don't hurt either. . ..
Good luck folks. I am just glad it will be over tomorrow and it is the weekend so I don't have to clean the driveway then go to work!

Majel Barrett has died. . .
NEW YORK - Majel Barrett Roddenberry, the widow of "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry, has died. She was 76. Roddenberry, an actress who appeared in numerous "Star Trek" TV shows and movies, died Thursday of leukemia at her home in Bel-Air, Calif., her representative said.
At Roddenberry’s side were family friends and her only son, Eugene Roddenberry Jr. Gene Roddenberry died in 1991.
Her romance with Roddenberry earned her the title "The First Lady of Star Trek." A fixture in the "Star Trek" franchise, her roles included Nurse Christine Chapel in the original "Star Trek," Lwaxana Troi in "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and the voice of the USS Enterprise computer in almost every spin-off of the 1966 cult series. She recently reprised the voice role in the upcoming "Star Trek" film directed by J.J. Abrams.

Carolyne Kennedy
This is scary. The media was recently calling into question all the qualifications of Sara Palin, but now it is a problem if you question someone's qualification? Just because it is a Dem you question and not a Republican?
This shows how the media continues to fail at it's job and still does not see the problem with playing sides in our politics. They cry about losing ratings and readers and viewers and all that, then they pull this crap.
They are not questioning our thoughts about Kennedy, or her politics, but they are questioning what we think about people that question if she is qualified for the Senate. They continue to blow smoke for the Dems, try to hide their agenda, and cover for their lack of experience/qualifications for leadership of this country. The Main or Lame stream media does not get it and won't get it until the are all out of a job. . . .
Questioning the government is good. They even backed questioning the government as long as Bush was running things. Now that the Dems are in charge look at the switch. They don't want questions any more. . . Sorry. I don't care who is in charge. The government should always be questioned. The government does not have our best interest in mind, that is why the Founding Fathers put all the checks and balances in place that we are so quick to try to gut. . . . When will we learn. . .
The Founding Fathers said that which governs best governs least. . . oh how we have fallen
Snow
1- 2 inches today
6 inches on Friday. . .
More this weekend. . .
Global Warming my ass. . . .
thank God for snow blowers and a new driveway that should be easy to clean. . . .

Fed Drops Rate
I hope this transfers to the mortgage market. I would love to get a lower fixed rate. I never have and never will go with an adjustable rate mortgage. My Dad taught me enough about money to know if I can’t afford the loan now then when the rate goes up I will be screwed. . . .
Anyway, now to wait out the banks and see if it will be time to re-fi again. . .
Gunny Christmass List
Me it is rather easy:
Get rid of MA AWB and fool gun laws (never going to happen)
Money for guns for getting into Cowboy shooting
- need tow Vaquero pistols and a shot gun
- money for ammo
Reloading stuff to get started - will need to if I want to cowboy shoot have you seen the cost of .45 Long Colt ammo?
a 1911 would be nice too while we are at it. . . .
For them to cut the crap and re-open my gun club
anyway it is nice to dream. . . maybe by summer I may have one gun who knows. . .
Cool look at the Election '08
Found this map HERE
I think this is an interesting look at how the vote played out. . . it shows that Obama does not have the overwhelming support that the news media wants us to think he does. . . . It also shows I live in the wrong part of the country but I knew that already. Ted Kennedy - need I say more?
Hillary's Senate Seat
Someone please tell me what this woman has done to warrant such a high post in our government. Sure she has worked on a few things like the New York City public schools but I don't think that counts. While doing that she sent her own kids to private school so we know how well the schools she was "fixing" really worked . . . . good enough for you and your kids but not for her kids.
Please, put someone in there that actually has a background of doing some good for the country. . .
Thanks
More Self Defense Stuff
Give it a try on yourself, rub the back of your off hand with your other hands knuckles. You may note that the closer to the target's knuckles you rub the more it hurts. You do need to be able to apply some good pressure for it to work right. . .
And that is your tip for today. . . .

They are still working on getting the NRA in to evaluate the ranges so the are still closed for Long Guns and pistols.

Here's to a quick visit by the NRA so we can get this range running again. . .
Fun Stuff
Personal Space Comments
So in the same line of thought I figured I would share some of my training with you on what to do if someone grabs your writs after they are in your space. Now the normal disclaimers are in force, you need to practice these moves for them to work and I am not responsible if you do them wrong and they don't work. . . If you like this kind of think I strongly suggest looking into a martial arts school in your area. Make sure they are not a sport club but actually deal with self defense issues. . ..
With that said here we go:
What to do if someone grabs your wrist
Assume the person is facing you -
1 If they grab the same side (your right hand with their left hand). Twist your wrist toward the attackers thumb and pull your hand away quickly.
2 If they grab the opposite side (your right hand with their right hand). Twist your hand toward the attackers thumb and pull away (twist is opposite of 1)
3 If they use both hands to grab one of your hands. Reach under your held hand and grab your held hand from underneath with free your hand. Bring your hands around in a big circle in front of you. Use your free hand to pull the held hand around keeping your elbows locked. Wrap up attackers hands under your arm and the attacker is now open to a punch/palm heel to the face
4 If both of your hands are hands are held (your right hand in his left, and your left in his right). Pull your hands apart and knee to groin. If you can’t move his hands then try to bring your hands together. He will try to keep them apart. When he goes to pull your hands apart let him (stop resisting his pull), opening him up for the groin strike
5 An alternate for #4 is for you to pull your hands/arms apart. When the attacker tries to resist you then pull your hands together so that you can pry one hand off. Twist under the arm still holding you and come up behind the person where you can strike or kick attacker
6 If they grab one hand an alternate move is to bend your wrist and try to bring your finger tips to touch the inside of your wrist. As you do this bring your arm up quickly over your head. This should break his grip. You can then bring your hand back down in a strike to the neck/collar bone
7 If they grab one hand an alternate move is to bend your wrist and try to bring your finger tips to touch the inside of your wrist. Keep your elbow in and bring hand up over your head. As you raise your hand step off to side and bring hand down to strike chest with an open palm strike.
8 This move assumes the person went to shake hands with you or otherwise grabbed your hand and tried to twist your arm behind back( done by lifting your arm up and stepping under it so they end up behind you. The counter is to spin with it turning your back to the attacker and grab attackers hand. The attacker should end up next to your free arm with you holding his hand behind your back. Use your free arm to drive an elbow strike to the attackers face. Bring free arm around in a big circle with your arm fully extended and break the attackers elbow.
Anyway, that is my two cents and with practice these moves will work. You need to know them cold so you can do them quickly and surprise the person. If you do them slow the attacker will know something is up and they probable won't let go of you. . .
Hope you found this useful. . . If folks like this kind of info I can post more defense moves.
Going to be a good day
Guess things can only go up from here. . . That's what I get for given a friend some grief over not having power this weekend from the ice storm I guess. . .
And I still hurt from a weekend of martial arts. . . I need to work out more. I really needed a hot shower this morning. . . .

Barny Frank
Nice, at least he admits he wants to take my money and give it to the lazy folks. . . .
Auto Bail Out Stalled
I am sure they will try to push this through again. You know what stalled it? The auto folks could not say when they would be competitive. . . They don't know or have a plan for it.
Until the Union is removed and/or gotten under control they will never be competitive. The unions are too strong and the Auto Industry gave them too much. They are over paid, under worked, and over compensated compared to everyone else in the industry and they are killing themselves. They are a cancer on the American Auto Makers killing them yet demanding more and more from them on the way down. . . If they are not fixed we should not throw away a cent on this dying industry.
Update
Ya know, the more I think of this the more I feel like this may be a win for us. The Republicans remembered that they are conservative and they stopped the Democrats from giving away our money. If they can stop things now we have hope that they can stop similar crap when Dear Leader gets in office. Maybe there is hope that he can be stopped.
Interesting Election Facts
Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning the 2008 Presidential election:
-Number of States won by: Democrats: 20; Republicans: 30
-Square miles of land won by: Democrats: 580,000; Republicans: 2,427,000
-Population of counties won by: Democrats: 127 million; Republicans: 143 million
-Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Democrats: 13.2; Republicans: 2.1
Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory Republicans won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens. Democrat territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in rented or government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government welfare..."
Only in the states of Alaska and Oklahoma: All counties were won by McCain/Palin.
Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase.
Mass Pike Lay Offs

President-elect Barack Obama and Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich
Why is he not doing this? What other involvement did he have? I think this is very bad as it already gives the appearance that Obama has something to hid on this and if so it will come out and weaken his administration like Whitewater did to Clinton.
Since Obama is showing he can’t handle this issue now I think we will see it used to bog him down and de-rail anything he tries to do. We are looking at a new administration that will be starting off behind the eight ball and may never recover.
Personally I think this is good for the country since he is a communist or socialist at best but our country will only be weakened by four years of more gridlock in DC. How bad this hurts compared to what he may do if he gets his way is anyone’s guess but I think this is just the start and Obama will be shown to be dirty like all the other Chicago Machine politicians and it will haunt him.
Rev. Wright strikes again
WOW, I thought it was Perl Harbor day when the Japanese bombed us when we were not at war with them. . . . .
That someone this uneducated had and may still have the ear of our next President is a very scary thing.
Christmas Issues. . .
CHILL FOLKS
You know, I don’t care if you wish me a Merry Christmas, I will say “Thank You, You Too” and take it in the sense it was given. They are wishing me a good time, or that I and my family have a happy time or whatever . . . in short they are wishing me well. Why should I take this as a reason to dump on them?
All I can say is you Liberals need to get over it and learn to take a complement or good wishes for what they are, a wish that you are well. . ..
And in that vein I wonder about all these towns that won’t have a “Christmas” tree but still put up a tree. It becomes a “Holiday Tree” or a “Winter Tree” or a “Non-Denominational Holiday Shrub” or whatever. Well this has been on the radio and I decided to come up with some new names. Here are a few I thought of or heard used –
It’s not a Christmas Tree it’s a –
Winter Clear Cutting Victim
Holiday Clear Cutting Victim
Holiday Global Warming Contributor
Winter European Oppression Tree
Winter Deprive a Bird of a Home Tree
Holiday Fire Hazard.
Non-Denominational Holiday Shrub
Winter Symbol of White Christian European Centric Oppression of the World. . .
What do you think we should call it so as to not “offend” anyone?
And while I am on Christmas has anyone else noticed that at the end of the TV show "Rudolph the Red Noised Rain Deer" that they are tossing toys off the sleigh while airborne? Have you also noticed that the misfit toys get tossed? Did you notice that the only one not given a parachute was the Owl who was a misfit because he could not fly (he swims)? Poor Mr. Owl. . . I can see the North Pole news now "Owl plummets to death moments after rescue from Island of Misfit Toys - Elf faces charges in death - Film at Eleven"
Great Quotes
But if we're talking some aging liberal arts major, who is essentially qualified to shriek and evacuate their bowels, telling kids to throw bookbags and trash cans, come on...
Read it all here.
I agree with him. As I said I am against this since I don't think they will really be shown what works. The Adults should have guns, the kids should be trained about guns so as to not be a danger, and the kids should have to do real martial arts self defense training in gym. Show them how to defend themselves, not just throw books and get shot.
Auto Bail Out
Can you say lets add pork to the bill? The government can barely run itself, I don't think we want them messing with the auto makers who are already in trouble. This just looks like another way for the Dems to grow the government and get it further tied into business.
Please, lets have some common sense here and either kill the bail out or the unions. The problem is not the need of government control or a Czar. We need new blood running the auto industry, we need to get rid of the VASTLY over paid union folks, and we need to trim the port out of them. Only then should we offer any kind of LOANS that they will have to PAY BACK! You want government money, you need to clean up your act, and if you still have problems then you go under. We are not here to let you run a business that can't make money. . . fix it or loose your jobs like the rest of us.

Sleep, who needs sleep?
I am too old for this crap.
That and I think my wife will go nuts and kill me if he does not start taking naps again. . . boy can he get cranky when he is tire. . . . .
Great Quotes
It is a great quote, one of the best:
Nominee for Quote of the Year - 2009
LTC John Dean "Jeff" Cooper, USMC (retired)
10 May 1920 - 25 September 2006:
It is interesting to hear certain kinds of people insist that the citizen cannot fight the government. This would have been news to the men of Lexington and Concord, as well as the Mujahedeen in Afghanistan. The citizen most certainly can fight the government, and usually wins when he tries. Organized national armies are useful primarily for fighting against other organized national armies. When they try to fight against the people, they find themselves at a very serious disadvantage. If you will just look around at the state of the world today, you will see that the guerillero has the upper hand. Irregulars usually defeat regulars, providing they have the will.
Such fighting is horrible to contemplate, but will continue to dominate brute strength.

Range Help
I have a friend that wants to get a gift certificate for her husband so he can go to a range and shoot. He does not own any guns but has been in the Army so is not untrained.
Can anyone suggest a range for me to tell her about where they/he can rent a gun, range time and if needed get instruction so he can get some trigger time?
I would just take him to my range but we are still closed (Scituate) due to issues with a ricochet and a house a half mile away. . . no it was not me and I don't think it even came from my range but that is a different story. . .
She is looking for a range in the Worcester or Boston area but any in "eastern" MA may work, they are willing to drive a bit to find one. . .
Thanks for the help!
Bail Out Barny
Well I feel that someone from MA should come out and say it. "I'm Sorry". OK, that is it. That is from the people of MA to the rest of the country. We are sorry we keep putting these fools in office and they take all your (and our) money. We (well not me, I am not in his district and I have a rateable IQ) will probably vote him back in too since we have no memory when it comes to the criminals we put in office. Nothing will change but we (the voters of MA) do owe the country an apology for our congressional folks, so there you go.
We are sorry. . .
Now back to our regular programming . . . . (that has so many levels here in MA. . . .)
Political problems in IL
Political Corruption in Obama's home state? NEVER!
Well, CNN thinks otherwise and so do the Fed.
I think this is just the start and we will be in for another 4 years of Clinton. Not just because he is filling his administration with Clinton folks but also because of all the corruption in Il that will come out. I think eventually Dear Leader will get tied to it somehow, and we will be in for another few years of special investigations and name calling while nothing gets done in DC. . .
I can't wait for the fireworks to start. . . .
Teaching kids to Fight Back
GEORGETOWN (WBZ) ― A local school district is considering training students as young as nine and 10 years old to fight back should their classroom come under attack.
The proposal is being considered in Georgetown where officials say they are discussing the idea, though no definitive plan is currently in place.
OK, here is a radical plan, how about just letting the teachers have a GUN like they did in Texas? What good is a fourth or fifth graders throwing a book at a gunman when you could arm the teacher and be done with it? I would like to hear more about it but for now I don’t think much of it. I think it will probably scare the hell out of the kids, then fill them with fear, a false sense that they can fight back, or both.
I want to know if they will really teach the kids to fight effectively or just throw things at the guy. . .If kids fight back, they would have to swarm the gunman to have any hope of stopping him. This will also mean that a bunch of them would be shot and maybe killed doing this so the rest can take the guy down. Overall I think it is a bad idea the way they will probably do it. I expect it will be teaching the kids to throw books at the attacker and not much else. . .
If we are going to do this right I want the kids taught how to fight for real, where to hit to disable or kill the attacker. Teach them what to aim at if they are throwing things. Teach a real martial art as part of the gym class, not this BS about throwing things at the bad guy. I want to see the teachers given the option of being armed. I want the kids taught gun safety so a gun it the room is not an issue. I want the kids to learn multiple routs out of the building so they can get out if things go FUBAR.
Also you know this will never happen as the last thing the left wants to do is to teach kids to stand up for themselves. They have spent too much time teaching them to be a snitch and that only the state can care for you. This kind of training would lead to self reliance and we can’t have that. Liberals want you to think the state is the answer for everything, and this goes against that.
Hell, here in the People’s Republic of MA if a person stands up to a bad guy anywhere the Attorney General calls it “self help” and has openly said she is against it. We don’t want folks thinking they can take care of themselves.
What do you think? There is no good answer for this issue but we do need to do something. Fear of teachers and lawful concealed weapons permit holders having a gun on campus is not helping, and only makes it easier for the bad guy. . . .
Karate & Sleep Depravation
But we did still manage to get through the drills and the new kata we are working on. I must admit I bailed on leading the warm ups though and the teacher was nice enough to take pity on me and let me off on that one. . .
Had a better nights sleep and I’m feeling much better now. . . .

Obama should be President NOW!
Folks, get off the drugs. The Constitution says when he takes office and I know you liberals care very little about it but that is the way it is. You want him in office now, then do it legally and change the Constitution with an Amendment or shut up. We will not bend the laws just because your guy won (even if he won't release his birth certificate)
Speaking of the Birth Certificate. . . For a guy who said he wants to heal our country what is he hiding that he won't release it. Just release it and let the country heal, but no, he wants to keep stirring up problems and this is just another way to divide the country and damage the office he will hold in January. . . This game helps no one including you - if you only had the brains to see that. . .
Thank you. . .
Obama's first screw up
Of course the fact it will get worse is that the talk is that they will try the same fix that they tried in the 1920's and 30's to fix it. . . it didn't work then and it won't work now. The mass government programs did not pull us and the world out the depression. . . WWII did.
Obama, please don't lead us to WWIII to get us out of this depression, we won't be able to fix anything after that. . . .
Maybe you should try to break the unions and make them work for a reasonable pay for the job instead of the high pay they get now. This would greatly help save the car companies. Stop telling folks it will get worse, and start trying to fix it. Put restrictions on the bail outs you are going to pass even though they won't help. Make sure the companies must spend the money to help the economy instead of keeping the cash or paying the CEO's with the money. . .You won't be able to blame it on Bush for long. Once you are in the office, it is your problem and yours to fix or fail with. . . .
From the Statehouse in MA
Dear Friend,
As you have likely heard, television stations will no longer broadcast using analog signals as of Feb. 18, 2009. This means that any television unable to receive a digital signal will go blank when this change happens.
You will have a chance tomorrow, Tuesday, Dec. 9, to find out whether or not your television is ready for this change. Boston television stations have volunteered to temporarily switch their signal from analog to digital for two minutes at 5:15 a.m., 6:16 a.m. and 5:15 p.m.
A message on your screen will let you know whether or not your television is ready for the change. If your television is not ready, there is currently a voucher program available that will give you $40 coupon towards the purchase of a signal convertor box. I have included a link to the voucher program below.
Aside from checking your main television, it is also important that you check EVERY television in your home, including any portable televisions that may be located in your kitchen, garage, camper, or boat.
It would also be very helpful if you could take a moment to pass this message along to any elderly family member or neighbor who otherwise may be unaware that this test is taking place tomorrow.
Here is a story from today’s Patriot Ledger on tomorrow’s important test: http://www.patriotledger.com/
And here is a link to the voucher program: https://www.dtv2009.gov/
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Best wishes,
Sen. Robert L. Hedlund
Very Interesting on the NRA
From Call Me Ahab:
Of the 23 candidates for the U.S. Senate endorsed by the National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund, the NRA-endorsed candidate won in at least 15 of these races, with the outcome still uncertain in Minnesota (still undecided). Assuming Minnesota comes out as a win for NRA, that’d be 16/25, or 64%.
Of the 248 candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives endorsed by the National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund, the NRA-endorsed candidate won in at least 216 of these races, with the outcome still uncertain in six races, including CA-4, LA-4, MD-1, OH-15, VA-5 and WA-8. That’s an 84% victory rate, not even including the districts still in question.
Restoration of Rights
The U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI), through the National Park Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, has announced the final amended version of its changes to rules on carrying of firearms in national parks and wildlife refuges. DOI's move will restore the rights of law-abiding gun owners who wish to transport and carry firearms for lawful purposes on most DOI lands, and will make federal law consistent with the state law in which these public lands are located. NRA led the effort to amend the existing policy regarding the carrying and transportation of firearms on these federal lands.
This is great news! It means that if you can leagally carry a gun outside the park than you can inside the park. The Brady group is trying to spin this as dangerous guns in the park, but if you are trusted outside the park with a gun why not inside where you may need it to defend yourself or family from wild animals?
Another win for the pro gun folks!
Payback
Last night he decided about 4 AM it was time to get up. Kept moaning and making noise in his room. OK, picked him up to bring in with us. . . ya right. . . worked for a bit then he decided he did not want to sleep with us but did like smacking me in the head. . . back to his own bed with him. . . . back to his moaning and making noise because no one else is up to play with. . . .
Top it of with he goes to sleep after we are all up and getting the older two ready for school. As of 8:30 he was sleeping in. . .
I don't know what I did but payback sucks. . . .

Gun Tragedy in the News
Now I think the guy was nuts to hand an 8 year old an Uzi with a full mag but that is me. A mistake was made and I agree that a mistake was made, but I don’t think this rises to the level of criminal behavior. If you can look at anything here it is an accident and that is all. I don’t see how anyone did anything criminal. The only difference between what happened here and a kid getting killed in a sports game is that this is MA and a gun was involved.
Lets review the facts:
Adult with the kid handling the gun – Yes
Adult was a certified instructor – Yes
Adult knew how to handle the gun – Assume a Yes
At a gun club shooting on a range – Yes
Kids Parent was with him – Yes
Kids Parent approved of the child shooting – Yes
Other people (and kids) had shot the gun already that day - Yes
This kid’s parent was OK with him shooting, and they had been there and seen what was going on. Dad is a Doctor so I have to assume he is smart enough to know a gun is dangerous just like a table saw or a hammer or a swimming pool or sky diving, or swimming in the ocean or snorkeling or boating or. . . . but all can be used/done with proper supervision by a kid.
Again, would I have done it with my kid – no, I would have made him start with only one or two shots in the mag to make sure he can handle it. That is me and hindsight is always 20/20. My kids also know how to handle a gun and I don’t know what experience this child had. Obviously he was not instructed enough or did not listen, but either way I don’t think a crime was committed here.
All I ask is that we be reasonable. If we charge these folks then we also need to hold folks criminally accountable when ever there is a death, be it on the football field, a fall off a horse, or anything else that most would call an accident. Just because a gun was involved should not taint how we deal with the accident.
Update - Sounds like MA law is that anyone under 18 is not allowed to fire a machine gun so the club should have known that and that is the only law broken. This still does not rate manslaughter charges in my book, there was supervision and parents involved, it was an accident. The club should be held accountable for the one law broken and that is it. There was a chief of Police involved in the shoot so he should have known the law but many cops in MA don't understand our messed up gun laws yet we are all held to them. . .
Merry Xmass Afgan style
Thoughts?
“Wear a gun to someone else’s house, you’re saying, ‘I’ll defend this home as if it were my own.’ When your guests see you carry a weapon, you’re telling them, ‘I’ll defend you as if you were my own family.’ And anyone who objects levels the deadliest insult possible: ‘I don’t trust you unless you’re rendered harmless’!”
I have been thinking it over and I have to say I agree. It is an interesting take on things and well worth the time to think about. . . Although I would expand it to any weapon you have on you. And as a martial artist I think it applies to that too but that is just me and my old fashion ways I guess. . .
And speaking of martial arts. . . good luck rendering me harmless. . . remember folks what most call a weapon is just a tool, it is your brain that is the real weapon. . .
This day in History
At 2:10 p.m., five U.S. Navy Avenger torpedo-bombers comprising Flight 19 take off from the Ft. Lauderdale Naval Air Station in Florida on a routine three-hour training mission. Flight 19 was scheduled to take them due east for 120 miles, north for 73 miles, and then back over a final 120-mile leg that would return them to the naval base. They never returned.

Big Three Bail Out. . .
Until this is fixed I can't see bailing them out and I always buy American cars. . . . they need to get back into the real world or we need to let them fail. . . . .
UPDATE
Saw a bit on the news saying that they only make $25/hour while all the "foreign" car makers in the US pay $15/hour on average. This is still the problem. Think how much that $10 adds up to . . . 10 x Hours/day x Employees working = HUGE NUMBER that they need to pay out. . .
I still say no bail out without the Union being broken or at leased reduced in power so the company can compete. . .

Mass Moment
Yep, for being fit for duty they get a bonus. Now I am all for backing the cops but I don’t see why we should pay a bonus for doing your job and meeting the minimum requirements. . . I don’t get a bonus for doing my standard duties.
Bonuses are for doing things above and beyond the call of the job. But not here in MA. Is there any more questions as to why this state can not make ends meet? This is what they want more taxes and tolls for? To pay folks a bonus for doing their normal job. . . . .
God I love this state. . . I can’t wait till this country gets back on it’s feet and I can get out of this state. . . .
