Here we go agian

Saw this while over at JayG’s blog MArooned. . . Looks like our friends in congress are looking to pass a new “assault” weapons ban. . . . It did nothing the last time to stop crime, it just hurt the law abiding gun owner – why do it again? That is easy, it gets them press and makes the sheep think they are doing something to stop crime.

Lets think about this. When was the last time you heard of someone using an “assault” weapon to mug someone or rob someone or commit any other kind of crime? Bet is has been a while if it has ever happened. That is because they don’t use these weapons, they use pistols, knives, bats, and other weapons they can get easy, and CONCEAL easy so they can get near you to mug you. SO this new law will not even dent crime but it will get Sen. Biden the air time on the liberal media he wants.

While we are at it lets talk about so called “assault” weapons. First, a true assault weapon can fire semi automatic and automatic but the civilian ones can only fire SEMI automatic so it is not really an assault rifle. Second, they fire a smaller cartridge than most hunting rifles – what that means is that they are less powerful and therefore don’t have the range or lethality of a hunting rifle. And third, they have a shorted barrel then most hunting rifles so are not as accurate. So why don’t they go after hunting rifles? Cause they know they will get voted out of office if they try. Lets face the facts, these guns are not Assault rifles, they just look like them and the only reason to outlaw them is fear of what they look like. . . That and the fact that success here will be another step in taking all our guns away because they don’t trust us.

Any government that does not trust its law abiding citizens with the means to defend themselves does not deserve the trust of those same citizens. The government is supposed to be for the people, by the people and answering to the people, so what do they have to fear from the people – the answering to the people part at the next election I guess. . .
