Mass Insanity

Only in Massachusetts or should I say only in Boston. . . . . This article tells of the latest way the Boston Housing Authority has decided to save money – by pulling security guards from the elderly housing project and putting in cameras instead.

Anyone but me see this as a problem? Ya, I thought so and so do the seniors. It seems that they have been fairly safe so far based on the numbers in the Herald today, but if you look at the surrounding neighborhoods you can quickly see that they are not in a good part of town. To top it off they seem surprised the elderly are fighting being thrown to the thugs . . . Gee I wonder why?

This taken from the article - Between Jan. 1 and July 24 of this year there were only 16 reported crimes - mainly burglaries but one rape - in all 13 developments under the existing security arrangement. That compares to 1,963 serious crimes in the immediate surrounding neighborhoods, including seven murders, 24 rapes and 195 robberies.

Now reading that I would say that the fact real people are walking around as security at these housing areas is doing some good. . . . BHA seems to think these numbers say that they don’t need people, cameras and the cops (who are already overworked) can do the job no problem.

Anyone want to guess the next new story? I can see it now on the front page – Crime rate soars in elderly housing complex due to illegal guns and gangs. . . They will never admit that they are setting these elderly folks up for the fall. This is Boston, they can’t own a gun to protect themselves from the gangs and thugs and now we will pull the security guards and let the cameras do it. . . . . all for a buck. . . . stay tuned folks.
